Back in 2013, Samsung made the Galaxy Gear - a smartwatch with a rectangular screen. It was followed by the Gear 2 and the Gear Live in the same form factor, but from then on, the company seems to have fully committed to round smartwatches. And yet, if a new report that surfaced today is to be believed, that's set to change soon.
Allegedly, the Korean company will once again make square or rectangular smartwatches, though this time they will of course be branded Galaxy Watch.
This idea is now "enthusiastically" being considered internally at Samsung and "it's very much on the cards that the switch" (to a square / rectangular shape) "is going to happen", the report claims.
What unfortunately isn't known is whether the new rectangular Galaxy Watch will be the Galaxy Watch7 that's due to launch in early to mid July alongside Samsung's next-gen foldables, or if we will instead have to wait a year until 2025 to see it.
If this is actually happening, then expect to hear a lot more about it in the near future, so stay tuned.
