Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Series to Adopt Squircle Design and New Features

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Watch8 series is shaping up to be one of the most significant design shifts in its smartwatch lineup. According to a deep dive into the One UI 8 Watch firmware, the Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic will feature a squircle body design—a shape that blends square and circular aesthetics—similar to the Galaxy Watch Ultra launched last year.

The Galaxy Watch8 is expected to launch in two sizes, while the Watch8 Classic, which could bring back the fan-favorite rotating bezel, will reportedly be available in just one size. Interestingly, there is no indication of a Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, suggesting Samsung may continue pushing the Ultra as a premium single-edition release.

Despite the squircle form factor, both the Watch8 and Watch8 Classic will maintain a traditional circular display. This hybrid approach gives the smartwatch a fresh, modern look while preserving the visual familiarity users expect.

The firmware also reveals potential new hardware enhancements such as a Quick Button, similar to the Galaxy Watch Ultra, and extended vibration pattern support. It’s still unclear whether the rotating bezel will officially return, but the Classic model’s name hints at its possible comeback.

On the software side, the Galaxy Watch8 series will debut with One UI 8 Watch, delivering several key improvements:

  • Now Bar: A quick-access feature introduced in One UI 7 on smartphones, now adapted for watches.

  • Randomized Watch Faces: Letting users cycle through different styles automatically.

  • Battery Protection Mode: Limits charging to a certain percentage to extend battery health.

  • Shortcuts App: Allows placement of frequently used apps directly on the watch face.

With these hardware and software refinements, the Galaxy Watch8 lineup appears to offer a balance of form, function, and innovation—ideal for users looking to upgrade both style and productivity on their wrist.

The official launch is expected later this year, alongside Samsung’s other flagship devices.
