Apple Working on Improved App Intents to Supercharge Siri: Gurman
Apple’s next-generation Siri, first previewed at WWDC 2024, still doesn’t have a confirmed release date after its earlier indefinite delay. But according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the wait could end next year — and it will come with a major upgrade: an improved version of App Intents.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman reports that the upgraded App Intents framework will allow Siri to fully control your iPhone using just your voice. This means you could tell Siri to find a photo, edit it, and send it to a contact — all without touching the screen.
The possibilities go beyond Apple’s own apps. You could ask Siri to open Instagram, like a post, or even leave a comment. Essentially, Siri will interact with apps the same way you would.
Gurman says Apple is already testing the improved App Intents internally, fixing bugs before a planned launch alongside the new Siri in Spring 2026. Tests reportedly include popular third-party apps such as Amazon, Threads, YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook, Uber, and more.
However, Apple will impose limits for sensitive categories like banking and health apps to maintain privacy and security.
If these improvements roll out as expected, Siri could finally become the powerful, hands-free assistant Apple has long promised.
